School will re-open to all students on Tuesday 4th September 2018 at 8.30am.
We are delighted to announce that, with effect from 1st November, Frederick Gent is the latest school to join the Two Counties Trust, a multi academy trust whose member schools are based in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire: Ashfield School, The Manor Academy, Selston High School, Heritage High School and Swanwick Hall school.
Julie Broadbent, Head Teacher of Frederick Gent School (pictured with the school’s Head Girl and Head Boy), said of the move: “We are delighted to be the latest school to join the Two Counties Trust. We have been interested to see the positive impact the trust is having for all schools involved and look forward to both making a contribution to the trust and benefitting from its support. There have been many positive changes here at Frederick Gent School over recent times, and these have resulted in some very commendable exam results this summer:
English – 73% of students achieved Level 4 or above, with 51% gaining Level 5 or above;
Maths - 68.3% of students gained Level 4 or above, with 49.4% gaining Level 5 or above.
With the combination of a dedicated and focused staff who are always prepared to go that extra mile, motivated and engaged students and supportive parents, we look forward to building further upon these strong foundations to ensure that all of our students achieve their potential.”
CEO of the Two Counties Trust and former Headteacher of Ashfield School, Dick Vasey, said of the move: “We are delighted to welcome Frederick Gent into the Two Counties Trust. The support and increased provision that has resulted from the collaboration of the schools within the trust can only be a good thing for the students in each of those schools, and we look forward to working alongside Frederick Gent in the same way. With teachers who are determined to enable their students to succeed, and some good exam results as a starting point, the future definitely looks bright for the school.”
Staff at Frederick Gent School are happy to welcome prospective parents to visit them for a tour so that they can see for themselves; if you are interested, please call to arrange an appointment on 01773 811737. Further information about the school is also available on their website: www.fgs.derbyshire.sch.uk.
We are pleased to inform you that we have a new PCSO team working in Pinxton and South Normanton, Lucy Naughton and Tom Smedley. You may have seen them getting to know staff and students at the end of the day over the last two weeks.
We look forward to continuing to work with Tom and Lucy who will be regularly visiting the school.

We are delighted with how well our students have responded to the massive changes to assessment in English and Maths.
The number of students achieving ‘good grades’ has improved by 12%. We have also continued the trend of increasing the numbers of students with top grades of 7 and 8, and the new grade 9.
It is especially pleasing to see that boys are now matching the performance of girls in all key subjects.
Keep up the good work!
